Snow Aurora is a South African-based online store specialising in hobby and craft products, with a particular focus on building blocks reminiscent of Lego. The business is owned by Xiaofang Chen, an entrepreneur managing multiple ventures alongside raising four children with her husband. Snow Aurora is named by her children, reflecting both her personal investment in the brand and the family-oriented spirit of the business.
At the time of engagement, the store had been live for six months but had only recorded a single sale. The website catered to South African customers seeking locally available, high-quality building blocks without the added cost and delay of importing products from overseas. Despite consistent traffic, visitors were not converting, and the client faced challenges in establishing credibility and trust with her target audience.
The client’s objective was to significantly increase orders and establish Snow Aurora as the leading South African retailer of building blocks. Xiaofang envisioned a platform where customers could confidently purchase high-quality, creative products without concerns about import duties or the reliability of delivery. The underwhelming performance of the website in its initial months of just one sale highlighted the urgency of intervention.
Snow Aurora’s success was not merely a business goal but also a personal mission. The client had invested heavily in the venture to support her family and fund her children’s education. Recognising her limited experience in website optimisation and e-commerce best practices, she sought a specialist agency to redesign the customer experience, build trust, and implement systems that would convert site visitors into loyal customers.
Our engagement began with a detailed audit of the website and user analytics. Visitors were spending an average of two to three minutes on the site but were not completing purchases. We identified key barriers: imagery featuring Chinese writing caused uncertainty, and the absence of payment security guarantees and customer reviews created hesitancy.
To address these issues, we implemented a multi-faceted strategy. We integrated PayFast as the primary payment gateway, ensuring secure transactions for South African customers. We extracted and prominently displayed a testimonial from the store’s first customer on the homepage hero section to provide social proof. Further, we integrated Google Business Reviews, importing feedback to reinforce credibility as new customers left reviews. Additional trust elements were added throughout the checkout journey, emphasizing secure payments and confirming Snow Aurora’s South African presence to remove concerns about import duties. Simultaneously, we updated product images and copy to eliminate any ambiguity about the store’s origin and implemented a comprehensive SEO strategy, optimising pages and images to improve search visibility.
The completed project resulted in a fully optimised e-commerce platform, integrating secure payments, customer reviews, and clear assurances of local fulfillment. The homepage hero now features social proof prominently, leveraging both the first customer testimonial and ongoing Google reviews to reinforce trust.
Product pages were enhanced with updated imagery and localised content, emphasizing the quality and South African availability of the products. Checkout pages were redesigned to highlight security features and guarantees, providing a seamless and confident purchasing experience. On the technical side, SEO optimisation across images and site content expanded search visibility, positioning Snow Aurora to reach a broader audience and attract new customers consistently.
The improvements had an immediate and measurable effect on Snow Aurora’s performance. Website visitors began converting into paying customers, and repeat orders increased steadily. The presence of verified reviews and trust signals reassured shoppers, reducing friction and significantly improving the overall user experience.
Beyond sales metrics, the project reinforced Snow Aurora’s brand authority in the South African market. Customers now recognised the store as a credible, local retailer, which strengthened loyalty and encouraged repeat purchases. Xiaofang and her team can now operate with confidence, knowing that the website reliably supports business growth and provides a platform to expand product offerings while maintaining trust and credibility with their audience.
